With over 25 years of experience, Barbara Cupiti is a freelance translator, interpreter and teacher of Italian, English and French at Barbara Cupiti Servizi Linguistics. Beginning her work in 1984, she has never stopped her education and training. She is currently an agent for foreign language schools and organizations as well as the tourism industry. She works with local and global businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals to help them with languages and works together with native speakers and language coaches and consultants.
Barbara says translation is an attempt; a desire to communicate and understand the other with whom we do not share a common language. It is the search for meaning that includes transformation, transmutation, interpretation, carrying over, and even removal. It involves the desire to understand, to find and to make meaning. Translation is not as easy and straightforward as it seems. It implies the transfer of a system of signs and codes, which also comes with the weight of culture and history, to another such system of sign and codes, with a different history and culture. There are even words which cannot be translated from one language to another simply because they do not exist in the target language.
Teaching is based on developing communication skills and encourage active listening, pronunciation practice and speaking. Barbara and her powerful team at Barbara Cupiti Servizi Linguistics offer an innovative and powerful new approach to language acquisition; we really like and enjoy working in a network:, helping each-other and growing together for a better service and new experiences. Based in Tuscany, in a beautiful area situated between Florence, Lucca, Pistoia and Pisa, they provide tailored coaching, training and homestay solutions.
Barbara has been President of the Twin-Town Association since 2014, and has been Vice-President of her town volunteer organization for five years, Vice-President of a female group of entrepreneurs in a national organization, an active mother in the school, and a volunteer in the care of older people.
Also a prolific writer, Barbara has co-authored a book on her expertise. Moving forward, she plans to grow and develop her business and to apply her core values of persistence and collaboration. When not engaged with work, Barbara enjoys travel, reading, theatre and spending time with her two children.
