With the knowledge acquired in information technology for the global health sector, professional preparation and skills in the management of health data for decision making,  as its seed capital, Ana María decided to redirect her career, taking control of the same, through work as an independent consultant, after more than 16 years of work in her country, El Salvador.

She established herself as an Independent Health Information Systems Specialist and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Consultant in 2007, providing technical assistance to International NGOS working in the global health sector in Low and Middle income countries, particularly supporting the appropriate healthcare technology implementation, as one of the key and transversal elements in those initiatives that pursued reducing the barriers in the healthcare services provision for the most vulnerable people.

Ana María has had the opportunity to work in different regions and countries, from Latin American countries to the Caribbean, South Asia, West and South East Africa. This vast and varied experience traveling around the world, has helped capitalizing this exchange, understanding context, respecting traditions and culture and having the necessary empathy, is the key to open the doors of innovation in every domain.

More rewarding experiences in her world experience starting in Indonesia and Nepal implementing a clinic management system to help health service providers to collect more accurate data about their clients, while keeping the privacy and confidentiality of the same.  Empowerment was the transversal axis on this project

Another top experience has happened in Latin America, where in conjunction with the public sector, a successful universal health record initiative has been implemented, assuring the uniqueness of the client clinic information to be found in a single repository, which allows Medical Providers to track in a more accurate way, the client´s care.

Last but not least, implementing a M&E platform in one of the largest NGO in Liberia, we could approach in a better way the key population for HIV /AIDS, with a most appropriate set of services, including the accompaniment, counselling and supporting to make them feel life supported

Ana Maria holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from ISEADE University, class of 2000 and an Engineering degree from Universidad Centroamericana Jose Simeón Cañas (UCA), class of 87.  Looking ahead, she would like to continue helping small businesses and to mentor organizations, working on proposals and funding.
